Huginn Technology would like to roll out a program similar to what Free Geek does in Vancouver BC, Portland Oregon and other locations. Free Geek’s mission is to reduce the environmental impact of waste electronics by reusing and recycling donated technology. Additionally they provide education, job skills training, Internet access and free or low cost computers to the public. We would like to bring this to Golden and the Columbia Valley.
We have to accept that the technology we use everyday has a significant impact on the environment. With that we have a responsibility to reduce that impact. Huginn Technology wants to provide this service by accepting all computer and computer related hardware. Once we have a sufficient base of refurbished computers, we will connect with local organizations to assist in providing these computers to members of the public who are in need. If things go well we would like to spread this down the valley, likely setting up a drop-off location in Radium Hot Springs or Invermere.
We will be providing updates via this website as to when we will be able to provide classes on general computer use and other computer related skills. Furthermore once we have a storefront we will also be looking at providing Internet access to the general public.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter or via email and we would be more than happy to answer your questions regarding this initiative.
